Reading this book prior to visiting Scandinavia really opened my eyes and made the visit much more educational as well as enjoyable.

It does cover a lot of ground, but it's a bit like being force fed a set of academic facts. We do take some fairly significant explorations of feudal society, for example. It's a good way to acquaint yourself with a lot of relevant facts.

Sweden's history is fascinating. I am looking forward to reading about Norway and Denmark. The writer has a lot of detail but keeps the story moving.

The price and the fact that it included allThe Scandinavian countries in one very reasonably priced volume. Succinct and comprehensive.

As I related to Ragnar Lothbrok, I have a lot of pride that early ancestors traveled the world over.This book talks about from the Ancient times to modern Scandinavia (including the Swedish Empire). It's a really good read with a lot of packed historical information in it.If you're going to travel to Scandinavia, this book would make an excellent read along as well.Excellent book. Great Read!

This book is "history of Scandinavia", a 5 books in 1 set. It is a phenomenal 5 book set of Scandinavia. It includes the following books: "history of Sweden", "history of Norway", "history of Denmark", "history of Iceland" and "history of Finland". When I find a factual error in a history, a book loses credibility for me. On page 302, the author writes, "Only 20 to 25 percent of Iceland is habitable, specifically the area along the southern and eastern coasts." This is questionable since 65% of the population lives in the Rekyavik area which is in the SW. The other larger towns are along the west such as Borganes and north such as Akeyuri. The east is sparsely populated.
