Neutra (Basic Art Series 2.0)

Despite having a rock-solid architectural education, including architectural surveys and history, I was not well-acquainted with the work of Richard Neutra. Focusing on his ample residential design work, this modest book does a great job of reacquainting me with this extraordinarily talented architect.

I’m collecting all of the basic architecture books. This one is gorgeous.

I sent this book to my brother who is a fan of Neutra. He absolutely loves it. By the way, the name is pronounced “noy-truh”.

This is a beautiful book about the prominent Mid-Century Modern architect Richard Neutra. It’s got a little biographical information, chapters on about two dozen of his projects, and wraps up with a timeline of his life and a map of the projects. Most of the buildings here are homes in Southern California, and Neutra designed some classic homes in the International Style. Associated with the famous Case Study Houses of the post-WWII era, his buildings have flat roofs, floor to ceiling windows, spider leg support columns, and lots of white walls and right angles. The book is very well illustrated and doesn’t stick to any project for longer than 6 pages. It really just barely scratches the surface and will leaving you salivating for more.

I bought a few books for display purposes and I have found that I enjoy a clean, minimalist style. With that, it look’s perfect on my shelf with my fake books underneath.

This book is great for a coffee table! It is by far the last expensive coffee table book I have found on amazon, and is great quality! It’s a bit smaller so it is perfect to place on top of larger books.
