Great dive watch , unbelieveable value.

Got this to replace my old dive watch and brought it on recent dive in St. Lucia. Easy visibility of hands on the dial and no leakage. Compared with the price of some dive watches this is a super bargain.

Center of Attention, great watch!

To start off, I ordered this on a saturday evening, and received it via UPS on Tuesday around 7:00PM, and that was one-day shipping.Anyways, the watch has some really cool functions, and looks amazing. I've owned $20 watches at Walmart/Meijer stores, Rolex, Omega, and I've recently been using an iPod Nano 6 with a white Nanotch(tm) watchband. The G-Shock has a white matte finish, and if you're a student, or someone working at a cubicle and writes a lot, then it is a possibility that you could smear graphite (from the pencil or ink from pen) onto the watch, but you could wash it off with soap and water. This watch is based off timezones to calculate the time, and it comes with a manual (timezones are at the last pages). The manual is in English, Spanish, and French I think b:The hands move around based on what the digital display reads; you can turn on and off daylight saving time too. (Watch arrives in EST, NYC.) We all know that the watch is waterproof, shock-proof, anti-magnetic, so I don't really need to say anything an those topics. You can change the backlight duration from 1.5sec - 3 sec, and it is pretty cool. There's military time (24HR digital display) and the normal time (12HR) with a little PM that is in the top left corner of the left display, when it's the afternoon. It has a really accurate stopwatch, with laps and a split. (Great for running and you don't have to be worried when it rains, unless you have your phone) There's a timer, which for some reason, only goes up to 24 minutes... you can adjust the duration. (You can set it to one time run/alarm, or a constant loop until you turn it off). There are 26 world times; I have mine to London, and it works GREAT. (Takes like 2 seconds to calculate but I'm fine with that) It has 4 alarms; you press reverse or forward to stop them, a snooze (Like a wake-up alarm) and you press either reverse or forward to snooze it. Will come back on in like 3 mins, but you have to turn it off and on again to stop it.)There's an option to turn on hourly chime which beeps twice at every hour. You press reverse to turn on the backlight, and hold it down for 3 seconds to enable the auto-light when you tilt the watch 45°. The left circle on the upper half of the watch displays whether snooze, alarm, auto-light, or hourly chime is on. The middle has something to do with the stopwatch, you can see some accuracy in the timing (I guess xD) and the right circle... This I'm clueless on, but I think it also has to do with the stopwatch and stuff :).The hour nobs are "glow-in-the-dark", and, unfortunately, the hands don't have an illuminating tab on them. The lower left display shows the time in digital form, press forward and it shows the date. The bottom right screen shows the day (eg: Mon as in Monday) and below it is the seconds. (Btw the hands are SUPER precise when they point at the little lines like for example, it is 1:00 or 13:00. The hands point exactly where they should be, and when the seconds reach around 30 seconds, the minute hand moves a tiny notch! Then, when it's 1:01 or 13:01, it points normally.) The contrast on this watch is really nice; I've gotten tons of compliments... some of my friends are even jealous! This is my first G-Shock and I'm not disappointed! I LOVE the double-clasp band, doesn't seem like it will come loose, the buttons have a nice texture, and I learned how to operate this watch in about 5 minutes (I was CLUELESS when I first got it, lol) The manual helps, and I HOPE my review helped you too! Relatively fast shipping, great watch, beast looks, best $100 I spent! This watch is part of the Japan Movement, and is housed/cased in China (I don't care where it was manufactured :D) and I'm simply just impressed... the dial is pretty big, and it it looks beautiful. If you have any questions please ask! I will hopefully respond quickly :)UPDATE NOVEMBER 2013: After using this watch for more than a year (Sept 29, 2012) I can say it's still working fine! Battery life is (supposedly) 2 years... I don't have any battery problems with mine! However, the paint is starting a chip slightly. I've gone snorkeling/scuba diving, dropped it many times off high places, FROZE MY WATCH, and many more rigorous tests... this thing is a tank! Some dirt and grime is starting to build up around the strap; it has a slight brown tint from my use. I don't use auto-light at all really, and the snooze is somewhat quiet... so don't use this as a primary alarm clock!I love the stopwatch. It's so freaking usefull and goes to the thousandths of a second! (ex: 12.345 seconds) Hopefully I will post a picture on this page to show what it looks like after all this time!

Not perfect, but very good.

I got the white version of the GA-100 series (it's kind of gray to be honest, not bright white, but it's a good color). This is a large, reliable, dual analog/digital watch with a lot of features, including the unique ability to set a secondary time zone that you can switch to quickly if you travel across state lines a lot, or to a different country once a month, or something of that nature. For the past four and a half months I've worn this watch constantly - washing my hands, in the shower, going to sleep, working out, and it's lasted through all of that flawlessly without issue. I only took it off a handful of times in that whole period until I bought my DW5600 (more on that later). I haven't gone swimming with it on yet, since it hasn't been swimming season, but I would do so in a heartbeat, and I completely trust the watch to last through any submersion in water outside of deep diving. It's a bulky watch, there's no doubt about that, and it does have a tendency to slam into doorframes and the like, but thankfully I have zero fear of this watch being damaged by impacts such as those because of how sturdy it is - for example, it seems basically impossible to accidentally scratch the glass because it has a raised edge around it. It's really not that heavy either, and I have very large wrists, so it was the perfect size and fit for me and not a giant brick on my wrist like it seems - in the picture you can see the size comparison with the standard issue G-Shock, the DW5600, and how much bulkier it is in comparison. It's both thicker and wider, but after wearing this model on my wrist for so long, the DW5600 seems kind of small in comparison. I think I like how the GA-100 wears better. However, note that I got the GA-100 first, and the DW5600 was purchased as effectively a replacement. There were a few reasons for this. The number one reason is that I needed to read the time in the dark, and I have a hard time reading an analog face (especially when I'm laying in bed half asleep at 4am), and the light on this watch is completely awful and only shines a skewed LED bulb light on the analog face with no backlighting. This makes it pretty hard to tell the time at night, and because the digital faces are not lit up, it's completely impossible to see what the date or day of the week is either. I also was almost completely reliant on the digital display to read the time the rest of the day anyways, and during certain times of day (7-9 o'clock and 35-45 minutes) the hands obscured the digital display which gives the time, forcing me to take an extra few seconds to read the analog face. The only reason I bought the analog face watch was because I wasn't yet comfortable wearing an all-digital watch in terms of style, but after awhile I just wanted to know what the time was and this design flaw was getting in the way. People also complain about the digital displays being negative (white on a black background), and while this is definitely less legible than a regular black on white display as you can see in any picture, I actually didn't find it too hard to read as long as there was normal room or outdoor lighting. Pictures make it look a lot worse than it is in real life. Though, oddly, the bottom right display, which shows the seconds and the day of the week, was always notably darker than the bottom left display, but still legible. As a budding fan of Casio watches/G-Shocks, this GA-100 series is probably the perfect entry point for someone who is on the fence like I was about getting a fully digital watch, but wants all the reliability and upside of having a G-Shock. I think this watch definitely deserves 4 stars just because I've truly put this watch through hell, and besides just the most subtle little discoloration on the white resin (which 99.99% of which went away after dropping in a cup of soapy water and scrubbing with a sponge), the watch seems like it can survive literally anything. In my personal opinion, if you can stand that 90s look of a regular LCD display with black characters on white/off-white background, I would suggest one of the other colorings of this model with a non-negative digital display for the best legibility. It should also be noted I got this watch for $75, and the price has increased since to $99, which is a much worse deal than what I paid for it. If you want just pure, absolute functionality and you can stand a digital display watch, I would suggest any of the digital face Casio models instead of the ones with an analog-digital combo such as this one - and they'll generally be cheaper, too. Assuming you don't mind having a recessed and harder to press "adjust" button (top left button used to set the time, change timers, and reset the stopwatch), the DW5600 is the gold standard for digital watches and costs $40 right now on Amazon. My absolute favorite pick instead of this watch or the DW5600, though, would be the DW290, which may not be a G-Shock in name but has literally all of the same features, same digital face, and same water resistance anyways (and does not have a recessed "adjust" button design flaw, from what I've read people say), and skews cheaper than either of the two other watches. That watch will be my next purchase for sure, and not another one of these combo digital-analog models, sadly.
