Interesting story told in an accessible way for kids
Margaret Davidson wrote a really interesting biography here aimed at the 3rd-5th grader age group. I especially like these old Scholastic biographies because they also let my boys learn the old style of writing that was popular when they were written. That expands their vocabulary and understanding of how grammar can be used - something that seems lacking in today's school curricula. I would suggest, however, that if you're going to read either Helen Keller's Teacher OR Hellen Keller by this author that you pick the former. The way she writes about Annie Sullivan's life is fascinating, and she repeats much of the information about Helen Keller in both books.

Great introduction to the world of biographies
We got this book for school. We homeschool and choose this to read for our daughter for second grade. This year we read from a number of subjects, biography, adventure, fantasy, historical fiction, mystery, humor, realistic fiction, and folk tale. We chose Helen Keller for our biography book. Our daughter absolutely loved this story. We were supposed to read this over 20 days, Charlotte Mason. We just could not stretch it to last 20 days. We barely made it last 4 days. She loved it and so we kept reading. We ended up getting the "Miracle Worker" DVD from the library to help fill some of the days we were supposed to be reading. We now are looking for another biography to fill the rest of the days. The book itself has a nice weight cover. Not so light it tears easily. However to to heavy that it inhibits beging able to keep the book open. The binding seemed to do the job, all pages are completely bound, none, missed. The pages are a yellowish color with black typeset. The paper is a nice weight, with texture making turning the pages easy. The type is on the smaller side, not a problem for me. However had my daughter been trying to read this herself the type would have been much to small. If you have trouble reading small print, this book would not be a good choice.I definitely recommend this book as a good introduction to the world of biographies, especially for a young girl. The will hold up to multiple readings with no problem.

Great book
My 8 year old was a little sad due to what Hellen went through as little but that’s part of the story.

Helen Keller book for school assignment biography
My daughter needed a biography for her 4th grade report. She was able to read this quickly, understood all the major themes, and was able to execute the report. She did read it in less than 1 hour-but I think that's due to her reading level. I'd have liked it to be a little more substantive.

This book was great for my 3rd grader. It was engaging, while also being right at her reading level. Such a wonderful story of perseverance, courage, and dedication!!!

Worth the Purchase
I got this book when Scholastic did “in-school” sales. Still great story. I have in my head that the Braille on the back cover was smaller and sharper, making it easier to read.

Six-year couldn't put this book down.
My 6-year old daughter and I are using this book in our first grade homeschool. We just finished reading it. My daughter loved it and even read parts of it on her own. Each day she couldn't wait for the next part of the story. It's a very simple story telling all the important parts of Helen Keller's life.

I remember hearing about Helen Keller when I was at school and wanted my children (aged 9 ans 13) to hear her inspirational story too. This version was clear and well written. I will buy others from the collection.
