Waterless Trap Seal, 3.5 Inch

Works well for what it is. Make sure you buy the right size for your drain pipe. Measure the inner diameter of your PVC pipe first. Before installing, use a scrub brush and clean your drain and then dry it. You want to make sure you give the trap seal plug a clean pipe so the seal works best.Push the plug a few inches into the pipe. This lets the water build up on top of it which then opens the device so water can flow.This device works depending on your shower head and gallons per minute flow rate. If you experience water backing up or not draining well your shower head may have a very high flow rate. One option is to purchase another shower head which has a lower flow rate and conserves more water. That may then allow the plug to work better.1 Star off due to high price for a piece of rubber gasket and because I have yet to see how well it does over time and how long it lasts. Will update in future if it holds up well.

I had an issue with backflow of a basement drain if I did more than two loads of laundry. This little gadget was exactly what I needed! It still lets water drain out (from a home dehumidifier) but keeps unwanted water from coming up.Definitely worth the money!

We had a floor drain in the basement, and the trap frequently dried out, resulting in a bad odor. This worked very nicely to eliminate the odor.

Did not work for back flow of water in drain

It seems to be nicely made and it can be easily installed, depending on your plumbing, but the seal releases with very little pressure. I have a utility sink in the basement that sees a little water gurgling out of the drain into the sink, maybe a cup or so, when the clothes washing machine on the first floor drains, and that amount of pressure is enough to release the back seal. It holds for maybe 5 seconds. Since that is the problem I was trying to solve, I returned it.

Well made and seems to block sewer gases well. I had read another review about using on a 2 inch floor drain. My 2 inch floor drain goes straight down and thus if this falls it would be lost. I took a scrap piece of PVC and cut out approximately 3/4 of an inch to make a snap ring and pushed it down inside the 2 inch pipe so that it could not fall. Works well

Just moved into a new house. We have a drainage hole in the floor of our furnace room. No P-trap, just goes straight into the sewage line. Stunk to high heaven. Smelled sometimes of farts, sometimes of animal, sometimes of both. Thought the smell would go away, but after a month it was only getting worse. Evenings our basement and main floor would smell like the inside of a public washroom. Did some googling and found out you can install one-way valves on pipes like this. Ordered the waterless trap seal, it came three days later, and bingo-bango no more sewage gas venting into our basement (which is also where we sleep, so SUPER happy to have this problem fixed). Rarely do I encounter problems in our new house that are this simple to fix. Seal's been in for a week now, and so far no issues. Drains as much water as I can throw at it. Poured several gallons of water onto it just to be sure, and it drained the water faster than I could pour it. So I have no worries about it being able to keep up with the drainage pipes I've got pointed at it right now (furnace, boiler, and dehumidifier).

Great prodcut, not just a backup drain valve to stop water...but also stops any sewer gas coming up too. I used this to replace an older backup valve that relied on spings to keep the valve shut, but over time that didn't keep a tight seal. This is far superior, and simple to install with a snug seal.

Purchased to prevent smell coming up from the washroom 4" drain hole. Is easy to install and so far it the smell have gone away. Also it will prevent any bugs coming up through the drain. Very happy!

I bought this product as a complete risk back in 2020 when I had a smell coming from our basement drain. I tried everything from soap, mineral oil, vinegar, bleach, everything.This item solved the issue in a matter of minutes and has been going strong ever since (fingers crossed). Really love this product cant recommend it enough.

Wish it was cheaper. Does a good job keeping out smell and bugs. Allows water to go down easy. So easy to install.
