Q: Can this game be played in teams?

You could play in teams, sure. One way to do this would be to have a bunch of two-person teams. Then, when there is a face-off, only one of the people on a given team is on the hook for shouting out a category during a face-off. Then, during the next face-off, the other person would be put on the spot. alternate back and forth. If you are asking this because you want to play with more than the suggested 6 players, you could also just play with more players. For instance, if you play with 8 players, every time a card is drawn there will be a face-off, because there are only 8 symbols in an Anomia deck. Playing with 8 players will also mean that the play piles won't ever usually have more than one card and therefore the revealed matches/cascades won't happen. While that is a great part of a regular game with 6 or less players, you can definitely play that way.
