Nifty entry from Waveshare for embedded devs. A pro grade tool for those that outgrow the cheapies

I'm not sure why care was taken to disavow the Waveshare brand name when the product arrives in a Waveshare box, with Waveshare on the PCB, and with Waveshare's own photos used in the ad.The good news is that's OK because I've used a lot of Waveshare products and have been consistently happy with them. This does not break the streak. This seems to be an authentic FTDI 232 chip. For those that remember FTDI-Gate, you're free to consider that a bug for a feature, but it means that it works effortlessly in modern OSes. Unlike the common cheapo versions, this has USB-C, so it connects to a computer made in the last 10 years without an adapter. It has a handy-dandy yellow jumper so that your TTL swing levels can be 5V for Arduino and similarly old gear or 3.3V for modern boards like VisionFive or most any other RISC-V products, any of the ESP32 boards, and most other modern gear.I used it at 3.3V via Dupont-style connectors with both VisionFiveR2 and ESP32 N16R8 DevKitC clones without problem. There are lights for TX, RX, and Power. I like that TXD and RXD are unambigiously marked. (Does "TXD" mean "I am transmitting" or "connect this to the pin that's labeled TX?". Here, the labels and arrows make it clear.)The extra pins that aren't traditional async serial are brought out to the side of the board, so if you need to add a jumper for RING INDICATOR or one of the five FTDI232's bit-banging ports, they're easy enough to pin out. There are two giant screws on the board. They're clearly not accidentally placed there, but I have no idea why they're present or what they're intended to fit.I think with some determination, you could use the five sidecar GPIO pins and special drivers to work as JTAG or a second interface, such as for a debug console - that's possible with this bare chip - but I failed in efforts to get that second interface to show as a host driver. This didn't make me sad as it wasn't an advertised feature, most modern boards have on-board JTAG anyway, and I'm 99% sure it's possible with the FTDI part anyway. I just gave up.THis is a prosumer-grade product for those that have been burned by or grown weary of the cheapies. Search for this board under the Waveshare name for "FT232 USB UART Board Type C" and there is a wealth of information on it.

Nice Module Layout

I really like the layout of this USB to TTL serial module by WONRABAI. The board uses a FT232, a good chip. The module has a jumper that can set the output voltage levels of the TTL serial lines to either 3.3V or 5V. I recommend setting it to 3.3V. The 5V levels are seldom needed even on 5V microcontrollers. All the most often used pins (Vcc, GND, TX, RX, RTS, and CTS) output to the end of the board. Additional pins are available along the side of the boards. The module comes with both male and female headers for the additional pins and a nice 6-pin header for the pins at the end of the board. The module also uses a USB-C input connector. When tested, the board performed without issues. This is a nice USB to TTL serial module.
