Q: Does the water last the whole night? Is there like an auto shut off mechanism when the water is out?

In the directions, you will see there are 3 options for misting I think the first is for on and off over a period of time. Second is to run continuously until the water has evaporated (that's the option I use; when I fill to top, I think it lasts up to 3 hours). I don't remember the third option. You can also turn off the lights, if you don't like them.

Q: Is this a higher output unit than others?

It does pretty well. I had one from Young Living that was terrific. When it finally died I ordered a new one from them and it had very little output so I returned it. This one is much better and is extremely quiet.

It's best to drop essential oil into the water
