bought this as an introduction to DE shaving. wish i hadnt, it has proved to be a waste of money.the Akro shaving soap - being a novice i just thought i was lathering it up wrong, having since bought some Proraso shaving foam i can tell you that the Akro stuff is terrible. It just will not completely lather, chasing , lumps of hard soap around my lathering bowl.the brush - I’ll admit I was given a badger brush from my father so only use this once. however it was so course in comparison and many of the bristles dropped out. I have not used it since.the blades - again being a novice I had nothing to compare these with until i got some Derby blades. the Baili bladeS went straight in the bin.the razor - this thing is shockingly bad (i have since bought an Edwin Jagger DE89L) if you fully tighten the butterfly it bends the blade so far much that the cutting edge is not exposed and you cannot shave with it. To be able to get a shave with it you need to not fully tighten the blade in, this leaves a lot of the blade sticking out of the razor and, quite frankly, it’s dangerous. it will also loosen more exposing more of the blade during a shave. the blade also didn’t sit square in the housing. after one shave with DE89L the difference was chalk and cheese.The bowl - the only item I still use from the set. I do have my eye on a replacement as this one is a little small and because it’s quite shallow the lather rides up the side of the bowl and spills over the edge. however, it’s only a bowl and is fit for purpose.I paid £20 for this set and maybe had about 5 shaves with it (this is only while I waited for delivery of my new razor)Don’t buy it.if you are new to DE safety razor shaving and are looking for somewhere to start i would recommend buying only a good razor and blades for now.I paid £23 for my EJ DE89L - use your standard foam ect then if you like the shave invest in a brush and good soap, you can lather on your face / hand.buy a bowl later if you must.buying a full set of garbage items like this was a waste of money.Giving 2 stars as opposed to 1 as it did at least make me realise that safety razor shaving is something that I want to do (instead of cartridges)
