I work for the DC area transit system and I needed something light , easy to carry , and specifically made to provide effective defense against the types of people who live and use the system . Deanwood , Minnesota Ave, congress heights just to name a few of the areas . The handle is perfect fit for my hand but I did add some skateboard grip tape to the finger areas to provide better grip when sweating. The glass break point at the bottom is definitely effective in more than just breaking glass . The cable with the protective sleeve is the winner though . First you don't need any extreme force or speed for it to do its job simple swings leaves a very large welt regardless of what clothing is being worn . Unlike a baton of some hard device there is no possibility or chance someone can just stop the cable with there hand and take it from you . There is YouTube videos that show how efficient this is and they are spot on . Knife defense , besides a firearm , this is your tool . Keeps them at distance while also giving you the ability to defend yourself. Twice used and both times it was a life saver . Second time it was a group and after the first one got a taste of it the rest didn't stay to find out . Practice practice practice and stay as vigilant of your surroundings it's only getting more dangerous out here .

Build quality is really good. Had my wife hit me with it about 10% strength and it freaking hurts!!! It seriously made me stop in my tracks. I really didn't want this to work as well as it did so my wife can return them and get our money back. I got three more for our cars and for when we go on walks. If we have to use anything I prefer this as it hurts super bad with minimal effort and won't break bones or cause death. This is perfect for those who want to protect themselves and not worry about the attacker suing you for perminate damages and how they can make any money at their current profession (stealing) now because of their new disability

I have carried an expandable baton for about 20 years. I have never had the occasion to use it but was always glad to have it with me in my car and ready. I'm walking quite a bit more nowadays and after a run-in with a passer-by and my baton uselessly sitting in my car, I decided to get a second baton to carry with me while walking. In my search for another expandable baton, I ran across this device and was intrigued. After reading some reviews and watching a couple of videos I was sold. I'm holding the Stinger in my hands and now I'm positive this is WAY better than a baton.First, I'm considering why I was carrying a weapon in the first place. I wanted to protect myself, not injure anyone per se. A baton needs a bit of training to handle and use effectively. If you just wind up and whack someone in the face or over the head, you run the risk of maiming them permanently, or potentially causing loss of life. That's bad. Even if they intended to hurt you, you might end up in jail or penniless. You are trained to go for soft muscle areas like across the back, thighs, ribs, etc. While this can be effective, as I said, it takes training and not a lot of people keep current and in the heat of the moment in a reactive situation, anything could happen. Second, blows from a baton are defensible and an experienced assaulter can disarm you and use the baton on you.The Stinger gives a LOT of leeway here. I would be totally comfortable giving this to my wife for her to use with little or no training at all. If someone came close and managed to put up an arm block, even with thick gloves or a heavy jacket, it won't protect them. This won't permanently maim them, but it will however hurt like holy hell with even a medium blow. I guarantee it will leave a heavy mark and possibly remove flesh if the attacker were bare armed. It will make them certainly stop in their tracks immediately and seriously consider whether this assault is still worthwhile. In the meantime, the recovery of the user after the first blow is very quick while the attacker is stunned at the level of pain. A second blow can be delivered almost immediately either back hand or with another forehand windup if you are quick. The results will be devastating while almost certainly non-lethal. The Stinger is basically impossible to defend against without a Roman shield. The 18" reach of the cable seriously extends arm reach for even the tiniest of persons. In fact, the closer to the tip that the strike is made, the worse the blow will be (the tip travels the fastest and does the most damage).In short, I like the Stinger way better than the baton. It protects me with huge margin of error, imparts a devastating level of pain with a modicum of effort, and brings with it a minimal amount of liability compared with other defense measures. Solid construction, comfortable in the hand, and highly recommended. I'll likely replace my car baton with a second Stinger.

Bought this after Hard2hurt review. I have the fast strike and this is very superior. I carry it EDC in a nite ize horizontal flashlight holster as that is 2 ended and can pull through. This has belt clip that attaches to case to be more secure. I electric taped that glass breaker end for regular handling as it will poke you----but with tape on it---it protects you from casual use but with force in a dynamic event it will just push through. Great item.

I saw this on a video from the hard to hurt channel. They weren't acting. One hit can make you buckle in pain. All the whippings you ever got in one shot. Don't underestimate it if you're on the receiving end.

As with any weapon practice makes you better. Practice can also get you her so you want to be careful with something like this. Could be a great Self defense tool for women and men in a bad situation and only in a bad situation. Otherwise this is a dangerous weapon and should be used with caution.
